I'm gonna be the dissenting voice here, this game's story sucks, or more accurately it's themes suck and it can't for the life of it make it's case. At the time of writing I have played two of it's four routes, those routes being the Kanae's and Ichigo's.
I'm not gonna call it preachy, it is of course but what VN isn't? (that's an honest question, I don't dislike VN's I just find that all the ones I played get on a soapbox) but when you get to the section where you have to make choices to specifically agree with the protagonist (and the author implicitly) or game over in the dream realm, that's a bit much.

The game's main theme is "Killing Le Bad" and it wants to jam this down your throat to ludicrous "HURDUR Those who kill demons are themselves demons"(direct quote btw) degrees to the point where after

kills a man who tricked a girl into drinking with cups made from the bones of her family then publicly rapes and deflowers her while the man she loves/who loves her is forced to watch. We get big "Wah Wah Wah" scene about it. This goes beyond "Punisher fans GTFO!" because even though the game espouses this moral, it utterly fails at convincing anyone it isn't retarded, Arguably the entire story happens because

to begin with. When I got to the end of the Ichigo route the only thing I could think about the protagonist was "what a whiny retard". I'll give it this HOURS after it's most hamfisted lecture it at least does the honors of making a contrived scenario where someone does indeed come to avenge the worst villain in the game up to that point, and even then it half-asses that because the revenge is by proxy of "this dumb bitch fell down the stairs pregnant IT'S YOUR FAULT THE BABY IS DEAD AND SHE'S CRIPPLED AND MINDBROKEN...uhh no, you didn't push her, no the shockwave from your attack didn't knock her down, in fact the guy who knocked her up kind of groomed her IT'S YOUR FAULT THE BABY IS DEAD!" Ironically the only interesting moral dilemma this game poses isn't about killing people at all (though it does end in death) Ichigo's backstory is the best part of that route, unfortunately you'd have to play the rest of it, The epilogue of the route was good too, I'm not even that annoyed by the contrivance of the villain avenger, I expected it and would've been more annoyed if the villain had no avenger, which would severely undermine the games thesis, I just wish the route knew when to shut the fuck up.

I'll give it this, the art is beautiful, the fight scenes are good text fight scenes, and the story while sophomoric, is at least consistent and not riddled with holes, in fact I've seen some people here mention something early on that seemed like a plot hole but is explained in all routes. I'll say what it is for those who don't want to play to check after all I've said but again you can see it in the common route, the reason the protagonist kills and couldn't spare at the start He kills

. So you see it does make sense

If you want something with the same moral but good, go play Devil on the G-String

Edit: Ok after I wrote this I gave the third route a shot and the hilarious dream scene is gold, devs should've made a comedy game instead, the third route in general seems to be pretty good IT'S GOLDEN, I can not emphasize this enough, the Ichigo route is godawful but if you stick with the game after that you do get a pretty good route directly following it

'Long shitpost with no basis and reasoning but a lot of water'

If you want something with the same moral but good, go play Devil on the G-String
I mean.. being dumb is one thing, that's normal, some people just are, so I understand when people fail to grasp the meaning behind something.

But suggesting Devil on the G-String as something 'good'? Not 'average', not even 'not bad', but 'good' WHILE comparing it to Muramasa?
That's beyond even my wildest expectations of how dumb can one person be.

If I had to write everything wrong with G-String novel I would need more words than the novel has.

But short and precise is the way.
G-String has NO morale and nothing 'good' about it. It's your standardfare shonen/slice of life 'mystery'(can only be called such as a joke) trying to be edgy/mature while feeling more of a parody(and even that is being generous)

It's simply too cringe from start to end.
It starts with overly 'genius' characters for their age who then follow up with really dumb mistakes. The most classical mix for a terribly written novel. The most common mistake an amateur author can make as well.
All that is creamed to the brim with twists which range from 'complete nonsense' tier to 'yep, that's one shiny plot armor for you' tier.

But does the novel stop there? Of course not, it's literally throwing you one geinus after another in your face without even remotely trying to sound like a parody at some point.
A teen who speaks six languages fluently? Why not, right? That's not even the worst example too, but the one easiest to pinpoint as absolutely absurd.

I am not really here to protect Muramasa or anything, it's not perfect, nothing in the world is, but comparing it's beautifully written prose and carefully crafted world to a shovelware/fanfiction tier garbage that's riding entirely on enjoyment value rather than any logic like G-String is weird to say the least.

It's like comparing a shooter to a turn based RPG.

The enjoyment value in general is the worst way to judge how 'good' something is.
I enjoy guro/vore content of almost any quality. Does it make it 'good'? No, it does not. It's usually pure garbage in fact.
Do I still enjoy it? In most cases yeah.

Same for the highly edgelord amateur novels with godlike 'genius' characters doing something epic. It can be fun for sure to follow such stories but that does not make them any less amateur'ish when you calmly analyze them and access the plot logically.
A lot of similar works exist exactly because it's not necessary for something to be 'good' to get sold well. Especially in novels of this style.
Death note, code geass, mirai nikki. All of those create a facade of some ultra genius actions which work pretty well in attracting the attention of the audience while throwing one twist after the other which look incredible at first glance. But the moment you take a second to sit back and analyze - the illusion of depth quickly falls apart.. either immediately or somewhere midway based on skill of the author.

Muramasa however is always grounded. It is very careful with the twists it throws at you and never 'risks' to make great twists purely for enjoyment value at the cost of consistency. The way it prompts it's morale choices is crude and forceful and the logic behind it can be easily refuted in many ways but so can pretty much any philosophical view.
After all there is no philosophy one can mark 'correct'.

The prose used is absolutely stunning. Narration is beautifully done, it's simply one thing that's essentially impossible to refute.

The moment you start judging something based on purely how you enjoyed something is the moment when review becomes pretty pointless since it's 'your point of view' rather than 'accessing something objectively'.
There are always at least a few factors you can objectively access depending on the genre of the novel and those should be the first to be judged.
There are a lot of novels I didn't enjoy at all and could barely tolerate(mostly the vanilla slice of life ones) that I would still rate as top tier among their genre and good reads in general.
Likewise there are a lot of novels I enjoyed a lot but I would hardly call them 'good' as they pretty much aren't. They were enjoyable for me and would be enjoyable only for people with similar tastes.

How do you miss it's very basic morale of not holding grudges and moving on with your life? No seriously how do you miss something that basic and think you have anything resembling taste?
I will skip the part where even such preach holds no meaning from a story as flawed as G String.
Let us assume the story that preaches this line of thought does indeed have a semblance of logic to it instead.

Simply adding random preaching to a story can not be called adding morale to a story.
Sadly I have to disappoint you - it remains a preach, no more, no less.
This is not morale, it is forcing one view that one deems correct while rejecting the opposition.

There ain't more morale to it than me telling your way of life is wrong simply because you can't comprehend something as simple as say Muramasa, which doesn't even go so deep and yet you still miss the mark on what the story is about.
Nor will I mention how making an opinion based on something you didn't complete is the highest point of stupidity.

There ain't more morale to it than the empty preaches of god's existence and of the 'good' way to live.

HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER
THOU SHALL NOT KILL
THOU SHALL NOT STEAL

Even IF you decide that a simple preach is enough for you to mistake it for morale - there is still the matter of it being just one way to view the world.

It's not what you deem correct or 'good' that makes up the morale, in the case above it's just baseless phrases with 0 meaning to them.

Only when a work addresses the opposing views and accepts them all as 'correct' can one be called a story that truly has morale to it.

For there are no less opinions in this world than there are people.

'Not holding grudges and moving on with the world' is no more than one way to tackle an individual problem.

But if that's everything that story tries to show - that's no more than a pacifistic preach.
In fact majority of the stories preaching the pacifistic thoughts have no real basis to them.

Is not holding grudges better than using them as a source of motivation?
Is forgetting rather than overcoming something the correct choice?

It might be. It might not be.

You can preach one line of thought and that's fine. That will be your opinion.

The only conclusive morale the best story can give is that there is no one way to view the world.

Even the most basic 'thous shall not kill' goes against the very basic principles of the world for example.
To kill is to evolve. The weak die, the strong move on.

This is how we got as far as we did. Yet now we got far enough to deny this very basis of life.

Grudges, Revenge - none of those are inherently 'wrong'.
Nor are they right. They are simply sources of progress.

Some find their purpose in love, some in competition, some in revenge.

If world only consisted of what people usually deem 'good' then we would likely not even exist.
Most technological advancement in the world happened due to wars. Be it directly or indirectly.

Yet majority of us call it 'bad' and 'evil'. Is war 'evil'? Does it make progress 'evil' as well?

Do we deny thousands of years of natural progress to reach the point where we can deem something that helped us reach this far?

But it's going too indepth at this point. The only point I originally tried to make is to not mistake preaches for morale.

Muramasa is a good example to the story of morale, not the one of preaching.

The true morale where each opinion is valid based on point of view.
Every person does own decisions while deeming own way of doing things 'correct'.

Some of us will agree to one character. Some of us will find their truth in the actions of another.
Some are driven by different emotions. Some are driven by logic.

There is no more to it than that.
The moment you lose sight of something as simple is the moment you become a zealous fanatic preaching their view rather than trying to accept that everyone has the right to an opinion no matter how alien it might seem to you.

From which games are those GIFS at your signature?
The animations themselves are not from any game, they are separate creations.
However, the first one depicts Marie Rose's character from the game Dead or Alive. And the second one features an Elf character from a game of the WarCraft series or simply World of Warcraft.

Just finished every route. Solid 9/10.
As dark as other N+ games i guess. No NTR though, which was a little dissapointing considering some discussions.

Are the H-scenes in this VN necessary, or are they just shoehorned in to get people to play?

What do you mean, lmao. No one plays this game for h-scenes, and they never were its selling point. It's not a porn game, it's a game with some porn for realism’s sake, like in the Game of Thrones.
